Back to the hexies

Last week I went to a meeting for my quild's quilt show. Because the show isn't until June I have been feeling like I have all the time in the world to complete a quilt or two to enter. But suddenly hearing the entry deadline I realized that I really do need to focus on finishing something. No more of my usual back and forth on projects, I need to pick one and finish!! So I have several options and decided that this may be one so I finally appliqued this to the outside fabric frame to square it up. Tomorrow I hope to start on borders since I have a bunch of half square triangles already made that should be perfect. What do you think, is this one show worthy?

Itching to get stitching

My house is filled with family this summer and while that is fun, I am missing my sewing time. Here are a two more blocks that I have prepped and ready to start sewing. I find it works for me to cut out each piece and glue them down with Roxanne's Glue before I begin sewing. That way I can see the whole block to make sure I am happy with the shading. It also makes it do relaxing to just sit and sew and it becomes a very portable project. I needle turn the edges so I must be careful to keep the glue away from the edges but since each piece only needs a few dots it works fine.
Hope I have time for a bit of stitching soon!

Another flower block

Despite the delightful distraction mentioned in the previous post I am getting a little appliqué done. This is another block from the BOM by Esther Aliu. Each month 2 different flowered are offered so I decided to make 2 quilts so I could do both blocks. This is block 1 of the second quilt. It still needs some embroidery but with a full house, I was lucky to get this done but I'm certainly not complaining. :)

My favorite distraction

Well I am home and look at what greeted me. Not much seeing or blogging going on cause I'm hanging out with my favorite little guy!

A happy winner

After a long drive home yesterday, I picked up the mail that had been held and discovered two packages of delight. I had actually forgotten about these so was extra thrilled by the surprise. The fabric aid a set of 9 fat quarters that I won from Melissa Cory of Happy Quilting. Such fun colors and prints in a unique color combo. I love them. The patterns are from Michelle Hill in Australia who does those fabulous William inspired quilts. She sent several wonderful patterns that I am excited to try. I am feeling very spoiled!!

More handwork

Since I head home tomorrow I don't want to start anything new today so I worked on some UFO handwork. The Sue Spargo BOM block is ready for embellishment and I worked on the embroidery on the appliqué block from Sandra Leichner's book. I was astonished at how the embroidery changed the look of this block. I haven't decided if I want to add the veins in the leaves. What do you think? Does it look finished or does it need embroidered veins.

A change of pace

I have decided not to make a final decision on the previous quilt until I can check out more options when I get back to my stash . In the meantime I finished the next block in the BOM by Esther Aliu.

Thanks for playing

A huge thank you to all of you who offered opinions and suggestions for this quilt. I am still trying out ideas and this morning discovered that I have enough wedges cut to make 13 more blocks! Wow enough for another slightly smaller quilt. So I am going to make 2 which will give me a chance to try out a couple variations. May use those same background dots cause I love them so much or maybe something completely different. Right now I am leaning towards a quieter setting triangle and love Donna's idea of the black and white. But then soft and sweet appeals too and bold with no black and white is also fun. Here is how it looks on the design wall right now. Thanks again for playing Design Dilemma.

From farther away

Well I am making some headway (see last 2 posts) but am giving you a photo a bit farther away. Try to use your imagination cause I refuse to cut into those big prints until I am sure. Lol

Another option

Or maybe this (see previous post).

Design dilemma

For those of you who read my blog regularly, you may remember the difficulties I had with the decision for the setting triangles. Well I am asking for help again! I thought that I had decided on the cabbages with the pink stripe but now I'm not so sure I still like it. What do you think of the floral with the darker pink small border or even the cabbage with the darker pink. Or should I keep looking. Help please, I really love this one and want to get it right. I went to the local quilt shop and they didn't really get where I am trying to go with this so I am hoping you guys can give me advice. :)

Back to circles

Today I am hoping to finish the blocks for this top and if I am successful I hope to cut out the setting triangles. This is becoming a favorite and I hate to finish cause then it won't be on the design wall where I can see it as I see. I

My fingers are sore

At last the embellishments are finished on this Sue Spargo block. Man are my hands sore after all the embroidery but I love how it turned out. It really is fun learning new stitches with each block but I can't say that embroidery is my favorite thing to do.

Sue spargo bom

Today I am trying to play catch up on my BOM from Sue Spargo. I'm also trying to improve picture quality of these remote posts by trying to use my iPhone. Hope this works. :)

Just playing

This morning I finished this little wallhanging. Nothing too serious going on these days, I'm just having fun playing with fabric.  Now if I could only figure out how to fix the picture quality on this tablet!!!!!

Quilts on the walls

Since I am still at DH's house I thought I would show a few of the quilts up on the walls in his rental home. Quilts on the walls sure help to fill a space and add lots of color to boring walls.  The basket quilt is a from the book Sweet Summer by Blackbird Designs and the other is a Kaffe Fassett pattern.  It is nice to have the space to hang them.
