Looks like I will make It

Yep, looks like I am going to get this top finished just in time. I finished the stitching on the appliqué borders today and hopefully will get it assembled tomorrow. So happy that I got it done now because Esther's new BOM Love Entwined was launched today. Oh my, this is such a spectacular looking project and I am just so excited to begin. I put the button on my sidebar so if you want to see what all the excitement is about give it a click and check it out. I have never added a button before so I hope it works for you. There is still time to join in and it is free but a major project that I would not recommend to beginners.

Anyway here is a shot of the William Morris quilt center.

William Morris borders

Well I survived the days taking care of my little grandson but man it was exhausting! Yesterday I was only able to do a little laundry and some hand appliqué but today I was able to spend a whole day back in the studio prepping the borders for my William Morris quilt. Since I usually do hand appliqué, I am constantly amazed at the speed of this process in comparison. But make no mistake, this type of machine appliqué is still pretty time consuming. I spent 8 hours today just tracing, cutting and arranging all four sides of this border. Here is the first side all ironed down - hopefully stitching will begin tomorrow as my personal deadline is this weekend as my new BOM and Quilt along begins and I really don't need more UFOs!

Coming together

The center is now all stitched and I just have one appliqued border to work on before putting this all together. I was a little unsure about the flower color choice I made for the center but hopefully it will grow on me once the border is added.

I won't be doing much stitching for the next few days as instead I will be watching my grandson while his parents have a little getaway. He is only 16 months and a very active little guy so I am sure it will be a busy, fun few days!

Waiting

Lots of sewing was happening this week but not too much I can show. I am waiting to post photos of something until it has been given away and I am waiting to start 2 new projects. Waiting because both projects are being launched soon online but not quite yet. First up is a quilt along with Michelle at the quilting Gallery. It will be ongoing through the summer and is called Aiming For Accuracy - a pieced project. And then Esther Aliu has a Yahoo group where she will soon be starting an 18 month BOM of an appliqued coverlet from the 1790's. So while I am busy collecting fabrics and not wanting to start something new I have returned to this UFO. This is William Morris and Friends from Michele Hill's first book. I just finished these blocks and will soon be ready to tackle the large center. Sometimes waiting can be fun!

A Zigzag finish

Today I finished the final block of my little woodland wall hanging and even had time to put it together.

I added a zigzag border and am really happy with how it turned out. One of the reasons I love applique is that there is way less math required and though this border is not too difficult it did take me a while to figure how to make the corners work out. This photo gives you an idea of what I did. Notice that two different units were required and some offset rows were necessary. If you need to see it more closely you should be able to click on the photo to see a larger picture.

And finally a picture of the finished bunny block. it is not my favorite but seems OK once they are all put together. My little grandson arrives next week so it will just get pinned up without quilting for now, but hopefully I will find the chance to quilt it soon! Thanks for following along as I made this fun little project, it has been a delight to create.

It's Bambi

Or at least that is who he reminds me of. I added the little dots on his back and like how that brings him to life.

I also started working on a border made from these units. can you guess what type of border I am working on?

And I am still trying to figure out posting with BlogPress and I have reposted this several times as I messed up while trying to resize photos. I was trying to make the font bigger but that only seems to show up while I am writing the post not after it has posted. So I may be switching to Blogsy. Any suggestions?

Polka dot skunk

Another little guy joins his friends in the forest. I am really moving quickly on this quilt because it is just so much fun. Just 3 more blocks to go and 2 of them are already prepped for appliqué! And the border units are 1/2 made so I might actually get a finished top next week. I probably should be doing other things but I can't remember the last time I had so much fun.

A Sly Fox

Here is a fox to join the cast of characters. I just love the expressions on these little guys. I have also started working on a border for this one and I am drafting something different than the pattern so math is involved. Hopefully I am on the right track and can show something soon!

Trying out BlogPress

Since I usually post from my iPad, I have decided to try out the app BlogPress because the recent update to my blogger app has resulted in really poor picture quality. It will probably take me a while to figure this new app out because I am pretty computer challenged but here goes.

Once again I am posting my little bird. Hope the picture quality is better!

Finished up this little birdie this morning.  Looks like the next one may take a little more time!

Getting squirrelly

The forest is really starting to come to life with the addition of this little squirrel. It is amazing how much faster things go when I am excited about a project and this one is just sheer joy. Check back soon for another forest friend!

A raccoon for the forest

Another little block complete! And I added a picture of the pattern cover but I you can already see, mine will be quite different.

I couldn't resist

Here is the block I finished yesterday . I am adapting the Hidden Forest pattern by The Vintage Spool in the same colors as my zigzag quilt. My version will only have 9 blocks in a different setting than the original. I really should be working in other things but I really couldn't resist the fun of this fellow!
